THE FIRST BABY WAS BLUE

The First baby was Blue

BEFORE we March down Burgandy Boulevard, 4th Recruit Training Battalion was proudly wearing Baby Blue. Before Baby Blue, women were trained in a separate set of buildings under the Women’s Recruit Training Command (WRTC). We honor the legacy of WRTC, those Marines served as a pivotal force in shaping the future of women in the Marine Corps. For decades, these trailblazing Marines helped pave the way through transformative policies, ensuring that women Marines would have the opportunity to serve and thrive alongside their male counterparts.

In 1986, the WRTC was succeeded by the 4th Recruit Training Battalion, but its impact remains woven into the fabric of every woman who wears the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor today. The courage, determination, and leadership of the women who trained and served within the WRTC set the foundation for countless women Marines who came after them. Their sacrifice and resilience continue to inspire us all.

The Always the 4th Movement proudly includes these women, who played a vital role in transforming the Marine Corps into a more inclusive and powerful force. Their dedication and sacrifice helped shatter barriers and create new opportunities for all women Marines, ensuring that the legacy of strength, pride, and service lives on.

Your legacy is forever engrained in the history of 4th RTBN – your spirit lives on.
